Richardson Resigns as School Board President

The Cameron County School District (CCSD) Board of Directors held an unscheduled meeting on Thursday evening to make additional personnel changes.
Member Robert Lininger addressed assembled “anybody who thinks the decisions made last week were made lightly. Sadly, it had to be done,” he said, referring to the firing of two teachers and the move to cut German and technical science curriculum. “Don’t think for a minute these decisions to get rid of people are easy. It isn’t.”
Lininger also stated his intent to run for office again this year. Lininger has until August to file because he is registered as an Independent.
The board accepted the resignation of Board President Daryl Richardson, but tabled a decision to vote on a new president until their July meeting due to a number of members being absent from Thursday’s meeting. Richardson was not in attendance, and neither were members Shannon Penfield, Sylvia Homan or David McManigle. Five members are needed for a quorum, so enough were in attendance to vote on business items.
