Sap-Suckers

We are rounding the corner out of February winters and into March…winter…but another step closer to nice weather; it’s not so much the cold but the noise at night.  I can hear the salt and chemicals from roads eating metal; that keeps me awake.

Maple taps are in and buckets are set and I’ve seen some steam above some sugar shacks. Sugar shacks make me happy; usually there is booze in them. I like the work of February; it is a good time to be in the woods. It is probably a little easier this year because there isn’t as much snow to fight.

Like any agricultural work, making maple syrup is a project that leaves you at the whims of Mother Nature.
