Sestina Commissioned in U.S. Marine Corps

Andrew R. Sestina, son of Don and Ricki Sestina, of Emporium, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Marine Corps on July 1st at 3 p.m. in the Cameron County Courthouse.

Candidate Sestina had completed the two requirements to become a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps: Completion of Officer Candidates School and a bachelor’s degree.

The process of becoming a Marine Corps officer is not an easy one. Sestina was a student at Allegheny College when he contacted a Selections officer and began the application process. He received references from his professors, prior employers, coaches and the Dean of Students at Allegheny College. The physical standards are also very high to become an officer, and the application  includes the score of a candidate’s Physical Fitness Test (PFT).
