The Sinnemahone Ultra Marathon Trail Run will be held this Saturday, October 21, on the scenic trails and backroads of Cameron County.
This year’s event is slated to be the biggest yet, with more runners signed up from out-of-the-area than local participants.
The race actually includes three different runs. The longest is approximately 53 kilometers, or a little more than 33 miles, and organizers attribute part of the increase in runners to the fact that the 50K stretch has been named the Road Runners Club of America’s October State Championship race.
Organizer Tina Johns-Solak stated that they have about 17 runners signed up for the 10-kilometer run; 36 for the 25-kilometer, and a record 27 for the 50-kilometer. Registration will remain open through Friday afternoon, the day before the race.
“This year, we have people coming from all over, including a few people from California and one travelling all the way from Germany,” said Johns-Solak. “This is also the first year ever that we should have great weather for the event. We’re looking at low 70s and no rain for Saturday’s forecast.”
