String of Recent Traumas Depletes Area Blood Supply

The Community Blood Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York is asking all eligible blood donors to help alleviate a sudden blood shortage of all types, after a series of traumas depleted the blood supply to partner hospitals over the last few days.

“Hospitals are using blood faster than donations are coming in, creating a deficit,” says Steve Beeler, executive director for the Community Blood Bank. “We need a large response from donors in order to get ahead of usage and stabilize the blood supply.”
