Unemployment Down In Latest Job Numbers

Cameron County’s unemployment rate was down in August, coming in at a seasonally-adjusted 6.7%, with approximately 100 individuals unemployed.

This is nearly a full percentage-point drop from just two months ago; June’s rate was 7.5% for Cameron County, the highest in the state. The lowest rate was 3.4% in Chester County. Only 28 counties had a rate at the state average of 5% or lower during that time period.

The rate across the Commonwealth for the same period came in at 4.9%, while the US rate was around 4.4%. The rate for Pennsylvania has hovered around 5% for the past several months, while the US rate has stayed around 4.5% or slightly lower over the same period. This was the third consecutive month where the Pennsylvania rate has been at or below 5%.
