Wandering Aimlessly
Beautify the County
by Phil Burkhouse
During the mid-‘60s I spent four summers working as a grunt for the PA Department of Forests and Waters, now known as DCNR. One fellow laborer, whose name I will withhold but who went by Bill or Bogie, had a saying he would scream out from the forested hillsides as we were marking timber forest sales. The forest sales were marked in blocks, and we usually worked in adjacent blocks. I would, throughout the day, hear his loud voice proclaiming, “Beautify the forest!”
