Wandering Aimlessly

DMAP Doe For the Little Bear

by Phil Burkhouse

In my December 10th article I discussed how Big Jake and I found ourselves airborne in the predawn darkness of opening morning.  Surviving this ordeal, Jake and I sat on the ground, and an hour and a half later Jake tagged a Cameron County 11-point (spike) buck.  We gave the buck a ride home, hung the deer, removed the hide, and then returned to the woods.

When we arrived back on the ridge we contacted Little Bear Wes and his dad, Ted.  They were stationed at the spot where Jake had fired shots in the air the first day of bear season.  On that day Jake and I had seen two rack bucks and a group of seven does from that stand, and I had high hopes Wes would connect on opening morning, but when we contacted them shortly after noon they had seen nothing.
