Wandering Aimlessly

Winter Fort: Kids’ Version

by Phil Burkhouse

As I watch our five little grandchildren grow, I am beginning to realize the term “little” might not be the appropriate term to be employing when describing them.  The pictures I glance at occasionally hanging on the hutch doors make me shake my head in amazement at how rapidly little people transform to medium size people and then into big people.  Jake, at age thirteen, is now almost six foot three inches tall and dwarfs me in height; there is little doubt in my mind that all three grandsons will probably eventually be looking down on the top of my bald head.

I still have hopes I might remain taller than the two granddaughters, but that could be a close call.  While their physical statures are rapidly changing as they approach adulthood, they are still young enough to possess a desire to do purely adolescent activities, which makes me grin with delight.
