Wandering Aimlessly

A Three-Story Robin Nest

by Phil Burkhouse

If I were to be given a dollar for each correct response that a thousand people chosen at random would give when asked to identify a bird in a picture, the bird picture I would choose to use would be a robin.

The robin is a very common migratory song bird and the largest member of the thrush family.  Since it is a member of the thrush family, it is a great singer and bursts into melodious song early and late in the day.  The reason I would choose a robin for identification is that it is very widely distributed across all of North America and is found in a variety of habitats.  Robins live and nest in towns, cities, lawns, fields, parks, forests, and mountains.
