Wandering Aimlessly

The one-day Youth Turkey Season was set for Saturday, April 23rd, and the youth in our tribe were anxious to go.  We had scouted and the plans were for Isaac and Ralph to head down county, Big Jake and I would also go down county, and the Little Bear Wes and Ted would hunt up county.

Three days before the opener, Ralph phoned and said he was headed to the Pennsylvania-West Virginia border to fight forest fires with a specialized Department of Conservation and Natural Resources forest fighting crew.  Ralph needed backup for Isaac, and I quickly enlisted Gary Clark, pro turkey hunter from West Creek, to fill in for Ralph.  As the week progressed, one down county location went dead with no turkey action, but the other hot spot looked like a sure thing.
