High Waters Postpones Annual Canoe Classic

High water conditions forced organizers to cancel the Cameron County Canoe & Kayak Classic scheduled for this past Saturday.

The race, which was set to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning from the boat launch near the Emporium Country Club, was announced as postponed as of 12:30 p.m. on Friday. It has been rescheduled for this coming Saturday, April 8.

Organizer Randy Bailey announced that “with a heavy heart and extreme disappointment” he was forced to postpone the race. High water makes for more dangerous paddling conditions, and for the safety of participants and first responders, the race had to be called.
