Historical Walk Through Coke Ovens

Cameron County Historical Society is hosting a Historical Walk through the Coke Ovens on April 25 at 10 a.m.

The coke ovens, just off Route 120, southeast of Emporium, were built more than 125 years ago when this bustling and growing industry thrived in the county. These structures were used to convert the bituminous coal mined in the local mountains into industrial coke, a relatively clean-burning fuel used in the smelting of iron ore.
