Low Voter Turnout In Primary Election

Voter turnout was low for Cameron County and many areas during last Tuesday’s Primary Election, with the only contested races being for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Congressional 5th District Representative on the Democratic ticket.

Only 634 of the county’s 2,812 registered voters, or about 22%, turned out to cast their ballots. Numbers are often low in off-year elections, when there are no local positions or a Presidential election occurring, but this year, a staggering 6% visited the polls in nearby Potter County.
