LST Tax Increase For Workers In Boro

Emporium employers will soon begin collecting the borough’s increased local services tax (LST).
The tax is levied on people who work in the borough and earn more than $12,000 in annual paychecks.
For the past 10 years the Emporium LST rate was $25. Borough council moved to increase the tax to $52 annually during a meeting in late November, 2017.
The $52 rate of deduction is the highest level allowed by law.
“We hadn’t raised taxes in the borough for 14 years,” said manager Donald (Stretch) Reed.
