Pepper Hill Fire Memorial Marker Dedicated

Nearly 100 people attended a ceremony to dedicate a historical marker to commemorate the 1938 Pepper Hill Fire that killed firefighters with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

The dedication took place exactly 78 years after the fatal fire wherein eight men lost their lives. Employees of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Emporium Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD), Cameron County Commissioners, the Cameron County Memorial Detail, the Cameron County Historical Society and community members attended the dedication, held on Wednesday morning at the Emporium Fire Hall.
