Six more weeks of winter has been predicted by the prognosticator of prognosticators, Punxsutawney Phil, on Monday morning in nearby Jefferson County.

Phil saw his shadow this year, heralding that winter will last well into April or beyond.

This ancient tradition began celebration in the United States on February 2, 1886, when the first mention of the groundhog’s verdict on the ending of winter was announced in the Punxsutawney Spirit.
