What Is Eating The Oak Trees?

If you have taken a ride on State Route 120 or 872 you may have noticed that the hillsides are not as lush as in other locations around the area.  The oaks are under attack by a native insect, the oak leaf roller.  This insect was widespread and had devastating effects on the landscape in the 1960s and 1970s, killing many oak trees.  Today the feeding is localized and visible. We also had some late frost damage on the young leaves of oaks, beech and other trees.
